ISLAMABAD (Daily Point) — Sarfraz Bugti, the former caretaker interior minister, officially joined the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) shortly after resigning from his position, a necessary step for electoral participation.
Bugti made this announcement at a PPP workers convention in Turbat, where he expressed his delight at entering the upcoming general elections with the support of PPP leaders, including co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.
The general elections are scheduled for February 8, 2024, following concerns of potential delays. However, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued the polling schedule in response to Supreme Court orders, alleviating worries about the election timeline.
Bugti, hopeful for peace in Balochistan under Zardari’s leadership, urged the ex-president to establish a state-of-the-art hospital in Turbat to enhance healthcare facilities for the locals, drawing a parallel with the facility in Sukkur. He pledged to transform the PPP into a progressive party under Zardari’s guidance and emphasized that the PPP is positioned to counter narratives against Pakistan.
It’s worth noting that Bugti was previously associated with the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP). Earlier reports in the mainstream media had suggested that Bugti had resigned to contest the upcoming general elections on the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) ticket.
