(Daily Point) — During today’s oath-taking ceremony at the National Assembly (NA), members supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) donned masks resembling the face of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The newly-elected representatives took their oaths during the inaugural session of the 16th NA.
In a show of solidarity with Imran Khan, PTI leaders Ali Muhammad Khan, Sher Afzal Marwat, Zartaj Gul, and Shandana Gulzar sported masks resembling the face of the former Prime Minister during today’s session in the lower house.
The Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), along with independent candidates from PTI, engaged in chanting slogans during the opening ceremony.
The session, convened under Article 91(2) of the Constitution, faced controversy as President Arif Alvi declined to sign an earlier summary for summoning the session. The refusal was reportedly based on the non-allocation of reserved seats to SIC.
